Balsalmic Vinegar

Looking to buy some, but I can't find it by eyeballing at the local supermarket, and I don't think I could explain it to a Chinese friend. (not sure they'd understand "the vinegar you put on salad").

You could try 意大利香醋, but you ain't going to find it in a supermarket. You might have some luck in a specialist western foodstore. I bought some last week.

"The vinegar you put on salads" won't work. Chinese people generally don't put vinegar on salads. Anyway, you can put many vinegars on salads. Balsamic would be way down my list.

If you go to a Western supermarket such as Carrefour then simply find Balsamic Vinegar.

Do you really need it? You could substitute Chinese black vinegar. I think that's called 黑米醋.

Liuzhou-what would be higher on you list and more easily accessible. I like balsalmic.

They are calling it 冠利香醋

I like balsamic, too but not generally in salad dressings. I have used many Chinese vinegars in viaigrettes - white rice vinegar is probably my favourite, but I can buy real white wine, red wine and balsamic here in Hicksville. I don't know where you are but, but a bit of hunting may turn up the odd surprise. I would be surprised to find them in a regular Chinese supermarket.

冠利 is probably the translation of the brand Kuhne.
