Teochew people

Hi

I was wondering, you know how there was an emigration of the Teochews out of the Shantou area many decades ago. I was just wondering if anyone here knows the history of these Teochew people...are they a Han? Also, what was the reason for the migration and why was it just the Shantou area but not other areas of China?
