imron Posted March 13, 2008 at 04:56 AM Report Posted March 13, 2008 at 04:56 AM Have a read of this thread, and this thread, to get an idea of why you can't really just "translate" an English name into Chinese. Quote
yonglin Posted March 13, 2008 at 05:10 AM Report Posted March 13, 2008 at 05:10 AM Every possible transliteration you could think up (e.g., 多米尼克, 多明尼克) would sound absolutely terrible. If you want a Chinese name for yourself, choose something else. Quote
staryan Posted March 13, 2008 at 09:30 AM Report Posted March 13, 2008 at 09:30 AM i think 道明克 is a good choice. Quote
DonnaB Posted March 13, 2008 at 10:21 PM Author Report Posted March 13, 2008 at 10:21 PM Thanks for the reply, I noticed on they threads you advised that girl to say son or daughter infront? well this is my dad (father) would that make a difference? Thanks again Quote
imron Posted March 14, 2008 at 03:25 AM Report Posted March 14, 2008 at 03:25 AM I think Heifeng's suggestion to find a Chinese saying that embodies what you want to express about the person (in this case your father) is much nicer than just writing father. Anyway, Father is 父亲 and Dad is 爸, or 爹. Quote
