help with confusing words

I was reading about the chemical melamine in chinese and some of the words in the article confused me. Please help me with them!!

坊間常見的美耐板，以及美耐皿餐具等製品，即為以此為原料製成的熱塑性塑膠產品。在部分亞洲國家，它也被用以製造肥料，或當作殺蟲劑。

What does 即為以此為 mean?

順帶一提的是，與Melamine 極易混淆的英文字是Melanin。

I couldn't find it in dictionaries, but I'm guessing that 順帶一提 means "another problem is that"?
