anonymoose Posted March 18, 2008 at 11:15 AM Report Share Posted March 18, 2008 at 11:15 AM I can't find a very appropriate way of translating "red herring" into Chinese. The closest I can come up with is 假象, but somehow it doesn't seem an exact match with the English concept. Is there a better way of expressing "red herring" in Chinese? I was about to go find out the name of a fish for you... (btw red herring are very good for salmon fishing )

anonymoose Posted March 18, 2008 at 12:45 PM Author Report Share Posted March 18, 2008 at 12:45 PM skylee, thanks. However, "red herring" is a noun, and I was just wondering if there were an equivalent in Chinese. For example, how could I say, "Here is a list of items that could help us identify the murderer, but I think the last two items are red herrings"? skylee Posted March 18, 2008 at 01:29 PM Report Share Posted March 18, 2008 at 01:29 PM I can't think of an equivalent noun. For your example, I think “但最後兩個是不相干的 / 不相干的假貨 / 爲了引開我們的注意力的假貨" will do.
