skylee Posted March 19, 2008 at 03:46 PM Report Share Posted March 19, 2008 at 03:46 PM After all, we did get blogspot for the duration of the last 两会 when all the foreign journalists swarmed to Beijing. Oh this sounds exciting. Can you access blogspot now? Just wondering if my blog can be read on the mainland, haha.
gougou Posted March 19, 2008 at 03:49 PM Report Share Posted March 19, 2008 at 03:49 PM Can you access blogspot now?No, unfortunately that was only for the duration of the 两会 (and again for a couple of days a few weeks ago).
peterlkj Posted March 20, 2008 at 04:03 PM Report Share Posted March 20, 2008 at 04:03 PM Hey - I thought this was a pretty interesting story so I mentioned it to someone at The Register, a tech news site - they contacted the BBC and said they reported no change... But I don't ever remember being able to access news.bbc.co.uk without proxys etc - do you? Has there been any more change?
roddy Posted March 20, 2008 at 04:08 PM Author Report Share Posted March 20, 2008 at 04:08 PM To be honest I'm not sure how aware whoever they spoke to at the BBC is of the way the block works - they may have noticed a keyword filter being tripped and therefore assume they are still blocked, while that's a very different thing to the url block that was in place previously. randall_flagg Posted March 20, 2008 at 04:23 PM Report Share Posted March 20, 2008 at 04:23 PM A little off topic, but I wish they would unblock youtube again. Using a proxy is just too slow!
Rincewind Posted March 23, 2008 at 04:00 AM Report Share Posted March 23, 2008 at 04:00 AM This is good news. I always thought the block on new.bbc.co.uk was an odd block. They only blocked the text news. You could always get the TV and Radio feeds (e.g. http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/news/ram/news_bulletin.ram ) Here's an interesting story in time for the Olympics about squat toilets. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/7304246.stm
liuzhou Posted March 23, 2008 at 06:40 AM Report Share Posted March 23, 2008 at 06:40 AM A little off topic, but I wish they would unblock youtube again. Your wish is our command. It's unblocked.
peterlkj Posted March 25, 2008 at 11:10 AM Report Share Posted March 25, 2008 at 11:10 AM The BBC are actually reporting it now as their top Tech and Asia Pacific stories on the website.

peterlkj Posted March 25, 2008 at 11:19 AM Report Share Posted March 25, 2008 at 11:19 AM Yeah - good news travels slowly, especially when it doesn't quite match the flavour of the day.
adrianlondon Posted March 25, 2008 at 11:58 AM Report Share Posted March 25, 2008 at 11:58 AM Surprised it took them this long to pick up on it though. Maybe they didn't think it'd last.
roddy Posted March 26, 2008 at 12:26 AM Author Report Share Posted March 26, 2008 at 12:26 AM "It comes in with no problems or proxy ... even with a rather large report about his holiness [the Dalai Lama]' date='" wrote one web user.Others suspected its availability might only be temporary, with one noting: "I doubt it will last, but refreshing to see."[/quote'] from here. liuzhou Posted May 18, 2008 at 04:09 PM Report Share Posted May 18, 2008 at 04:09 PM I hope I'm worng, but the BBC News site seems to be blocked again this evening. Could the idiots be so stupid to reblock it just as they are winning some praise for their openness about the earthquake?
