Quest Posted May 31, 2004 at 11:59 PM Report Posted May 31, 2004 at 11:59 PM Quote
xuechengfeng Posted June 1, 2004 at 01:17 AM Author Report Posted June 1, 2004 at 01:17 AM 为甚么我太太 as opposed to 内人? is it more natural, or common? 她.. we haven't learned this.. I'm assuming it means "her?" and a few characters i don't understand, i can find them in conjuction with a whole word, but not the ones i'm looking for.. 觉得很意外 选择 一伙到了外面边喝茶边谈 如画 下次有空 谢谢您。对不起,太麻烦了。 Quote
Quest Posted June 1, 2004 at 03:09 AM Report Posted June 1, 2004 at 03:09 AM 内人 gives me goose bumps, it's worse than 内子. I am not sure if 太太 is understood to be wife in the north, though. 觉得 很 意外 (feel unexpected/surprised) 选择 (choose) 外面 (outside. 外头 is dialectic) 边 喝茶 边 谈 ([一]边......[一]边...... to describe two things you do at the same time) 如画 (like a drawing = beautiful) 下次有空 (空 kong4 = free time) Quote

Guest Yau Posted June 3, 2004 at 07:28 PM Report Posted June 3, 2004 at 07:28 PM 太太 and 内人 is equally good to me. I can imagine if a foreigner introduced his wife to me, and say "it's my 内人", how impressed I'd be. Here are some more you can learn, but just take it for fun. 爱人 Lover---- A common word that once refered to wife or husband in modern china, but i really doubt its popularity today. 女人 Woman ---- Some still use it to refer to his wife, though it's quite weird. Don't forget to add "我" before it. 犬儿 (literally means Dog-Son) --- it refers exclusively to a "my son", never take it to mention "other's son". A humility in ancient china. Quote
xuechengfeng Posted June 3, 2004 at 08:02 PM Author Report Posted June 3, 2004 at 08:02 PM i hope this is grammatically correct, but 我是能說“我內人”﹐還是能說“內人”呢﹖ or 都可以﹖ i've seen both versions, but i thought 內人 meant "inner" or "my inner" person.. so if it was 我內人 it would seem to me it would be like my my inner person Quote
Quest Posted June 3, 2004 at 08:39 PM Report Posted June 3, 2004 at 08:39 PM 内人 is discriminatory! wifes are not 内人s anymore. ok it probably means 内家的人 but anyways, I think it's very 肉麻。 so if it was 我內人 it would seem to me it would be like my my inner person no it has nothing to do with your inner peson. only if translations were that simple! Guest Yau Posted June 4, 2004 at 06:02 AM Report Posted June 4, 2004 at 06:02 AM 我是能說“我內人”﹐還是能說“內人”呢﹖ or 都可以﹖ Both are idiomatically correct. Some more to add: 內人 literally means a person who works in the house (and refer to "my wife" only). I don't think it's discriminatory at all. There's even no any serious debate on it in china, don't believe any statement that insists the political correctness about chinese family title. There's no such thing. However, it's true that this word is quite strange nowadays. When you say that, people may think you come from an ancient world, you must be a very traditonal person, but nobody finds it offensive. Anyway, just use it for fun. Quote
