bernard_nj Posted March 25, 2008 at 03:36 PM Report Posted March 25, 2008 at 03:36 PM Does anyone know where I can get the list of characters for each of the Hong Kong grade levels? I am using the Integrated Chinese texts, and would like to see what other words they teach in the early grades in Hong Kong. I then will create sets of flash cards from these lists. My adult class has just finished Level 1 Part 1 textbook and we have started on Part 2. So I am a beginner trying to learn from as many different angles as possible. Bernard from New Jersey Quote
russmeier Posted March 25, 2008 at 10:46 PM Report Posted March 25, 2008 at 10:46 PM 您好,Bernard. While this is not "official", a good reference for vocabulary and characters from a variety of learning texts as well as "top-1000" and grade school lists is yellowbridge. http://www.yellowbridge.com/ Then, click on flashcards or memory game under the Chinese Language Center. While these resources are not exhaustive, nor exactly the lists that you are look for, the flashcards and games are a lot of fun! 祝好 Russ Quote
DrWatson Posted March 25, 2008 at 11:18 PM Report Posted March 25, 2008 at 11:18 PM Bernard, Just in case you are interested, I know of a link to the characters broken down by school year in Taiwan. It seems to take awhile for the page to load, but it is worth it. Characters by school year (Taiwan) Quote
bernard_nj Posted March 26, 2008 at 01:49 AM Author Report Posted March 26, 2008 at 01:49 AM RussMeir and DrWatson Thank you for the ideas. Russ - I also like the YellowBridge site for its dictionary and etymology information. It also shows the HK levels for each word. But what I am trying to do is to find a multi-column spreadsheet list (or TXT file) that has all the words listed, with one column for Hanzi, one for Pinyin, one for English, and one for the grade level. If I have a list then I can compare it to my list from Integrated Chinese and focus on the new words (which I create Excel flashcards). Otherwise I would have to gl to each word and copy their HK level one word at a time. Not a lot of fun. I used their dictionary to create a list for my Integrated Chinese class. Pretty tedious work. Dr. Watson, I have gone to the site you recommended and I am able to copy their lists into Excel and will be able to cerate my list. So far I have found words organized by number of characters. I will continue to look for lists by HK grade level. I also found this list to be a good start for the top 9000 words. See http://www.chinese-forums.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1541&d=1196092519 If I can create a single HK list I will post it back to this forum. Bernard in New Jersey Quote
BrandeX Posted March 26, 2008 at 03:40 AM Report Posted March 26, 2008 at 03:40 AM Unless I am over looking something, I am a bit confused to your reference of "Hong Kong" levels. Written chinese is virtually the same regardless, but is it cantonese you are studying now? Quote
bernard_nj Posted March 26, 2008 at 12:09 PM Author Report Posted March 26, 2008 at 12:09 PM BrandeX, I am trying to learn the Mandarin language, not Cantonese. I use the YellowBridge.com dictionary to support my learning. In their Dictionary page for each character (Detail) they indicate the HK grade level. Also they have flash cards for grades 1 to 4 (part 1 and 2) and for grades 5 and 6. To supplement my learning I am going to try to get some books for the early grades, and try to read them. I only know about 500 characters so far, and do poorly with Chinese newspapers. http://www.yellowbridge.com/chinese/fc-options.php?deck=hk I am trying to get a list of all the words in a spreadsheet that categorizes by HK grade level. Then I can match with my list of words from the Integrated Chinese text and learn the extra words. I will start with the words from Grade 1. Bernard from New Jersey Quote
BrandeX Posted March 27, 2008 at 11:05 AM Report Posted March 27, 2008 at 11:05 AM That sounds great, would you post the spreadsheet online after you are finished? Quote
