Hi all,

I am looking for fun activities to do here in Souzhou like Go-cart, Motocross, and other 4x4 outdoor activities. Any idea or suggestions?

Thanks

Hi Volcan,

I lived in Suzhou for a year back in 2001/2002. It wasn't as developed back then as it was now. So there are probably new things to do than when I was there.

Some of the things we did were Climb up a religious hill in the west, mandarin orange picking in the Fall, Caving in a place near wuxi (my house mate did this and said it was fun.) A friend visiting Nanjing says there is a regular poker game a one of the bars in the south part of the city on Saturday's I think and thursdays.

Chinese -esque things that I enjoyed were roller skating, easy ballroom dancing and ball room dancing in the dark (I wrote a post about this before). Singing KTV and riding random places on my bike.

I think there may be horse riding in the west though I didn't do this. There was also a yachting club on Taihu lake, (though I am not sure how many members or boats they have.) I was not earning much back then 2600, so had some limitations on some activities. Also trying to visit a different ancient garden each week could keep you busy. (there are more than 25 gardens back in the day).

You are so close to Shanghai, there a a couple of go-karting places in Shanghai, probably as well as clubs for the others motor-type sports.

Good luck,

Simon:)

Motorcycles are heavily regulated and often discouraged. Sometime mini-mafia people buy motorcycles, so be careful about the clubs you join.

Dear simonlaing,

Thank you very much for your detailed reply. Things mus have changed in 6 years so I hope that more activities are also available. Nevertheless, I will definitely try the go-cart near Shanghai.

Thank you
