Johndrei Posted April 10, 2008 at 10:50 PM Report Posted April 10, 2008 at 10:50 PM I will be in Beijing from 20 May to 29 May. I would like to ride one of the new Bullet Trains for a short trip. I believe these trains are called "Harmony" (He Xie Hao). Are these "bullet trains" in operation for short trips of 1-3 hours leaving from Beijing. And if so, from which train stations in Beijing do they depart? Quote
imron Posted April 11, 2008 at 01:25 AM Report Posted April 11, 2008 at 01:25 AM You could take the bullet train to Beidaihe which is a coastal resort town east of Beijing. It takes about 2 hours, however the number of bullet trains stopping at Beidaihe are reduced during the non-summer months, so you might need to take it a little bit further on to Qinhuangdao (although by May, there should be plenty that are running). Qinhuangdao is the place where the Great Wall goes into the sea, so there's touristy stuff to do there as well. There's usually a train for Beidaihe/Qinhuangdao that leaves Beijing's main train station around 7.30-8.00am, so you could probably make a day trip of it if you can find a train returning in the late afternoon. bloove Posted April 11, 2008 at 09:11 AM Report Posted April 11, 2008 at 09:11 AM The "Harmony" bullet train ticket which is indicate with start letter "D",the average of speed maybe at 200km/h. Here is some info: Beijing to Qinhuangdao,It's about 2 hrs from Beijing station. Beijing to Beidaihe,It's about 01:50 hour from Beijing station. I can't find any bullet train which the destination is Qinhuangdao/Beidaihe,So you will get down in the midway, pay attention to that. If you just want to travel some places,"Y" ticket is better proposal from Beijing station, you can take Y509 which the destination Qinhuangdao(03:22),or get down at Beidaihe(02:58 ) in midway. Quote
imron Posted April 11, 2008 at 10:02 AM Report Posted April 11, 2008 at 10:02 AM Yeah over the winter months, they stop running most/all of the D trains to Beidaihe and Qinhuangdao. They usually start again around May, so by the time the OP arrives there will quite probably be D trains running there. Quote
