citywayne Posted May 2, 2008 at 11:55 PM Report Posted May 2, 2008 at 11:55 PM Anyone have any opinions on this brand of beer? It just showed up in Chicago and I was wondering if it is worth a run. Thanks. Quote

cdn_in_bj Posted May 4, 2008 at 02:49 AM Report Posted May 4, 2008 at 02:49 AM I had this beer when I visited Hangzhou. It didn't really leave an impression, but it wasn't terrible (probably on par with or slightly better than the average Chinese beer). Quote
citywayne Posted May 9, 2008 at 05:09 AM Author Report Posted May 9, 2008 at 05:09 AM Ok, I got a 6 pack of Siwu Xihu Beer. I iced up 2 bottles to have with some pizza today. The 1st bottle was very good. It is a light lager, ... sort of like Corona. I opened the 2nd bottle and it was flat. I didn't have any more on ice, so I had to go and get a cold Corona. Bottom line is that it is an ok beer. I would buy it if it is on sale. The thing that bothers me is the lack of quality control (much like most things coming out of China these days). If the people in power don't start regulating themselves, they are going to poison their own well. So sad. There is so much potential there. Quote
lilongyue Posted May 9, 2008 at 05:22 AM Report Posted May 9, 2008 at 05:22 AM Ah yes, the ubiquitous Siwu (which I think is some funky spelling of the Chinese xihu, as in West Lake). Not a big fan, I prefer Xuehua. By the way, do the bottles of Siwu for sale in the States boast of it "now being formaldehyde free!" like they do in Hangzhou? Quote
citywayne Posted May 9, 2008 at 06:35 PM Author Report Posted May 9, 2008 at 06:35 PM No, no mention of 'formaldehyde free' ... but then they did not charge me extra for it either ... but it does say it's made from quartz spring water, whatever that is ... 100 meters deep too! Quote
