Shadowdh Posted May 7, 2008 at 04:36 AM Report Posted May 7, 2008 at 04:36 AM Hi all, its finally come to the point where I have to leave China and it could be in 3 weeks or it could be 3 days so if I get the chance I would like to go down the 3 gorges from wuhan to chongqing and then fly to Beijing for my last week (this is provided that I get 3 weeks and not 3 days). So does anyone recommend a particular way to cruise down the river from Wuhan (I know I have to take a bus first or something)?? I will do a quick search on this and I know I am being a little lazy asking first but I still need to organise a whole bunch of stuff (packing (man how many books have I bought and still have to buy, weight limit anyone) and so forth)... cheers and many thanks in advance... xuechengfeng Posted May 18, 2008 at 01:49 AM Report Posted May 18, 2008 at 01:49 AM I took a "cruise" from Chongqing to Yichang. Every single time I go to China, I go the budget-tourist route with no problems. However, if you can afford it, take a nice boat. Ours was a disaster. The floors had some metal under them and they were warped, so anytime someone stepped onto it, it was extremely loud and woke people up. Hot water was a rarity. A/C was turned off during sleeping hours. I was violently ill and the "doctor" had to be no older than 15 years old, and he also functioned as a cook. The beds were even less comfortable than hostel beds. Not only that, we told the tour company that booked us we need soft-sleeper tickets from Yichang to Guangzhou and they said they would arrange for them to be waiting for us at our hotel in Yichang. When we arrived in Yichang, the people at the hotel said they didn't get our tickets yet and when they went to do so, they were all sold out. We had to take a 4-5 hour train to Wuhan then fly to Guangzhou, blowing our money. Also, the scenery was beautiful, but once you see one gorge, you've seen them all. Quote
Shadowdh Posted May 18, 2008 at 05:15 AM Author Report Posted May 18, 2008 at 05:15 AM Thanks for the headsup... I have decided due to time restraints that I will be flying both ways now... its a shame as I would have liked to do it but 怎么办? Quote
