gc_lon Posted May 9, 2008 at 12:03 PM Report Posted May 9, 2008 at 12:03 PM Hi all! We are planning a trip to China. Is there an online route planner for China/Shanghai? It's like the ones for Europe, where you put in Start point (address/postcode/place of interest etc) and Destination of where you want to go, and it gives you step by step driving directions, total travelling time, distance in km etc? Thank you gc_lon Quote
jbradfor Posted May 9, 2008 at 04:02 PM Report Posted May 9, 2008 at 04:02 PM You want to rent a car and drive? I can never keep up with rule changes, but I thought China didn't recognize foreign driver's licenses, meaning you can't drive. Someone who knows for sure can comment? Quote
gc_lon Posted May 9, 2008 at 04:43 PM Author Report Posted May 9, 2008 at 04:43 PM I won't be driving myself, we'll be travelling by coach. Just wanted to plan the timing (what time to leave, how long the journey would take, distance etd). So do you know any route planners? Ideally in English, but could be in Chinese. Thank you. muyongshi Posted May 9, 2008 at 11:49 PM Report Posted May 9, 2008 at 11:49 PM It's true, you can't just rent a car and drive using a foreign driver's license. And I have yet to see a chinese "map quest". Quote
roddy Posted May 10, 2008 at 01:42 AM Report Posted May 10, 2008 at 01:42 AM Googles maps will do this within a city and also between them. However it's in Chinese and I'm not sure if there's an English version. Quote
ipsi() Posted May 11, 2008 at 06:40 AM Report Posted May 11, 2008 at 06:40 AM There's no English version for Google 地图, as it would fall under Google Maps. Since there's no detail for China in Google Maps, the only option is Google 地图, or other Chinese websites... I'm not sure why that is, and it annoys me, but it's not a huge pain. Quote
simonlaing Posted May 14, 2008 at 03:22 AM Report Posted May 14, 2008 at 03:22 AM Map.baidu.com is a good one if you have problems with google. Elong.com can help your with finding hotels in certain sections of the cities you're visiting. I use both. I think lonely planet books and websites have some maps with pinyin (english pronounced maps). Good luck, Simon:) Quote
