lilongyue Posted May 11, 2008 at 01:15 AM Report Posted May 11, 2008 at 01:15 AM I'm American with a Chinese wife, but a British friend recently married his Chinese girlfriend, and within 6 months of getting his marriage certificate (结婚证)he and his wife moved to the U.K. There are websites specifically for Westerners with Chinese husbands/wives that have a lot of information about every step in the immigration process. The websites I have are for Americans with Chinese spouses, for example http://usa.bbs.net/ (in Chinese), http://visajourney.com/, and http://candleforlove.com/, but I remember coming across similar websites for British with Chinese spouses. It's difficult for Chinese to go anywhere outside of China honestly, but I think that going to the U.K. is easier than the U.S. My wife was denied a tourist visa to the States, even though we've been together for more than 3 years (and have evidence to back it up), but had only been married a short time when we applied. The Chinese wife of another American I know was also denied a tourist visa recently. So, in some situations being married doesn't make any difference. If one is married, or planning on marrying, it seems to be easier to immigrate on a "fiancee visa," meaning you're going to your home country specifically to marry, or to just get married here in China and begin the full-blown immigration process. Both visas take much longer to get than a tourist visa, and are more expensive and much more hassle, but most people succeed in getting them. Being married doesn't seem to influence on whether or not one's wife will be given a tourist visa. Quote
liuzhou Posted May 11, 2008 at 02:59 AM Report Posted May 11, 2008 at 02:59 AM It isn't that difficult. The regulations can be seen here. Quote
LaoLiang Posted May 12, 2008 at 02:56 AM Report Posted May 12, 2008 at 02:56 AM Shouldn't be difficult - you can also get married in HK if you wish. Quote
BrandeX Posted May 12, 2008 at 05:20 AM Report Posted May 12, 2008 at 05:20 AM for an "english man" you certainly write like most of the chinese I know, not that it matters whether you really are, or aren't lol. It can be a difficult process though for some people, so good luck. Quote
Lu Posted May 12, 2008 at 07:27 AM Report Posted May 12, 2008 at 07:27 AM Nah, Chinese people wouldn't write 'I hear its realy difficult', they make other mistakes. And people who aren't too good at spelling and grammar should also be allowed to bring their spouse to their home country. I wish the OP good luck. Quote
simonlaing Posted May 26, 2008 at 02:26 AM Report Posted May 26, 2008 at 02:26 AM Sometimes Embassies are rigid about rules, so if they find out she is married to you they will want to to get a marriage visa not a tourist one usually. Also if you want to get a european spouse visa you need to notarize your wedding certificate or a copy with a European consulate and the chinese consulate before you go get the visa. A guy at my company was recently rejected for a tourist visa to europe because it was obvious that he was going there to attend a conference not travel for leisure. On the flip side when you are renewing your chinese visa with your marriage certificate you need the certificate, her Hukou, your Police registration, but not the 400 yuan health certificate. (you get that before you get the wedding certificate silly me I got it anyway). This visa has single, double and multiple entry type visas. with different prices. My grandmother is old so I have opted for the multiple entry for a EU passport 660, The US would pay about 950 RMB. After 5 years of living married in China the authorities can give you a green card (10 year renewable multiple entry visa). Good luck, SImon:) Quote

It can be a difficult process though for some people, so good luck. A UK citizen doesn't need to be a native speaker of English. In many parts of London you rarely see people with European looks. People say it's Londonistan now. Quote
BrandeX Posted May 29, 2008 at 03:17 AM Report Posted May 29, 2008 at 03:17 AM You are all absolutely correct, perhaps I was just jumping the gun considering it was only a "1 poster" and sounded like the chinese side of the affair looking for information, posing icognito. (not that you would have to, but some people..) Haha, anyways, they can't care much if didn't come back after 3 weeks. Quote
