xpat123 Posted May 21, 2008 at 03:31 AM Report Posted May 21, 2008 at 03:31 AM i want to study medicine in china and can anyone suggest me a medical school that teach medicine to foreigners in guangdong(except guangzhou),guanxi, hunan, like these provinces near to guangdong. Its better if its near to guangdong but even if its far and in the beautiful city i can consider. It seems pretty hard to get admission as university do not reply our emails and tell us to contact agents, how to know which agents are working for which universities.Chinese university are depriving basic educational information right to the foreign students just to breed some agents and that is pretty bad .If any one can recommend any medical university---i will be glad. They will not reply from website or some websites are fake that is not made by school rather by agents or fake agents --seems getting admission is too hard for anyone who do not come through agent. But i have regularly told i will pay agent that university has hired but why can not i do admission without agent letter. Most agents are outside china and how to contact them>?i will pay them what ever fees is allocated to them but can i do admission from university directly paying those folks too...seems educational system in chinese most universities are just like a local shop ,too bad system.do not think am writing wrong,i have spend 2 months looking for school and send 100 plus emails to schools..some say sorry we do not take direct admission ,some say contact agents of your country etc. etc.any recommendation will be great.thank you Quote

weirdo Posted June 7, 2008 at 09:22 AM Report Posted June 7, 2008 at 09:22 AM Guangzhou Uni teaches in English too so I think I'll be applying for the English one. It's 30,000 RMB yuan/school year/person. They can teach in Chinese too with a 20,000RMB/school year. Accommodation fee :Single-bed room: 16,000 RMB yuan /room/school year Double-bed room: 19,200 RMB yuan /room/school year (Two students can share a double-bed room or one may ask to stay in a double-bed room alone) I'm planning to take acupuncture and moxibustion, which is 5years. Oh, and there's no entrance exam for foreign applicants. Um, are there lots of job opportunities in Guangzhou? And is it safe? I heard the crime rate is quite high... Quote
komotan Posted June 7, 2008 at 09:46 AM Report Posted June 7, 2008 at 09:46 AM not every medical schools are taught in English in China, there are lots of information on internet, but it's not very reliable. A friend of mine appied to Sun Yat-sen University, which claims it's program is taught in English. It turns out the university force all students to the Chinese taught program, those who don't speak Chinese at all have to drop out!!! I know Fudan and Zhejiang both have MBBS program in English, you can goto China Education Center, you may find what you need there. Quote
yonglin Posted June 7, 2008 at 03:59 PM Report Posted June 7, 2008 at 03:59 PM I think that even if you don't speak Chinese, you'd better go about learning it really quickly if you're planning on studying medicine in China. As far as I'm aware, all clinical practice, patient contacts, etc. would have to be conducted in Chinese. This is quite similar to the situation in Eastern Europe: more and more people from Western Europe go to Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary, etc. to join medical programs taught in English. However, if they haven't become proficient enough in the local language to manage their clinical training by the time of the second or third year, they are forced to drop out. Schools often recruit students they don't even believe will make it through, because they still make an excellent source of revenue for them. I would be genuinely surprised if Chinese universities differed very much in this respect. If you think you can cope with that in your spare time whilst being enrolled on an English-language program, you'd probably be fine. Otherwise, you may want to obtain a reasonable level of Chinese proficiency first and then join either an English or Chinese language medical program. I would have thought that medical studies requires a great deal of work in itself - to the extent that it's kind of tricky to manage learning Chinese in your leisure time. Just my humble opinion. weirdo Posted June 8, 2008 at 01:23 AM Report Posted June 8, 2008 at 01:23 AM Medicine courses takes years. More or less, theories are introduced on the first 2 years and maybe internship for the following years. That's a reasonable time to actually understand the Chinese language, thus, it would be easier to actually interact with the patients. Yonglin is actually right, but, its kinda prolonging the years that we have to study, hehe. Like, living in China and understanding the people's language and culture would make learning the Chinese language faster, so I thought maybe,we,foreigners can do it simultaneously. Just a thought though. Quote
komotan Posted June 8, 2008 at 06:44 AM Report Posted June 8, 2008 at 06:44 AM I agree, foreign students should have a reasonable level of Chinese proficiency before they study in medical schools in China. It's not too difficult to meet the min admission requirement HSK 3, many can meet this level after one year study in Chinese language program. Then, you can apply to either English or Chinese taught medical programs. Quote
