Scoobyqueen Posted May 24, 2008 at 08:14 AM Report Share Posted May 24, 2008 at 08:14 AM Are there any more common word for capable and competent?
freefall Posted May 26, 2008 at 10:19 AM Report Share Posted May 26, 2008 at 10:19 AM 有能力 and 能干 are verbs, while 技能, 本领, 技巧 are nouns. So they are not strictly interchangeable. Off the top of my head another one with the meaning "qualified" is 有资格的.

Scoobyqueen Posted June 12, 2008 at 12:04 PM Author Report Share Posted June 12, 2008 at 12:04 PM I just want to add another one for my reference: 本事 Chinese seems to have loads of expressions on ability and skill. Such qualities are obviously valued.

muyongshi Posted July 4, 2008 at 02:33 AM Report Share Posted July 4, 2008 at 02:33 AM My teacher just told me that 有本事 has gone out of fashion by the way. I think your teacher is a bit out of touch....it's used a lot in joking now a days but it is still common enough... 有能力 and 能干 are verbs, Try adjectives not verbs. 能力 is a noun but when you add 有 in front it makes it for all usage purposes function as an adjective. 他很有能力 他很能干 他人不能干
yersi Posted July 4, 2008 at 03:00 PM Report Share Posted July 4, 2008 at 03:00 PM One I've found useful is 有兩手, as in 他對彈鋼琴真有兩手, "he is very capable at playing the piano".
