freefall Posted May 29, 2008 at 01:06 PM Report Posted May 29, 2008 at 01:06 PM Despite the general rule that 的 should not be used in conjunction with statements about the future, it seems (as always) that there are some usages where it is acceptable. Here the addition of 要 seems to make it okay. Now, my native speaker source told me that this sentence is wrong: * 我是明天去北京的。 (1) But the following are correct: 有没有明天去北京的? (2) (Is anyone going to Beijing tomorrow?) (3) (The itinerary for tomorrow's trip to Beijing.) Why is it that 明天去北京的 can be used in (2) and (3) but not (1)? Is it because 明天去北京的 somehow connotes the idea of "someone/something else" and not the speaker him/herself? edit: confusing--i just found this sentence online: 有多少人是明天去的啊? http://gzbbs.soufun.com/2811066092~-1/9645713_9645713.htm Quote
dufresne Posted May 29, 2008 at 06:40 PM Report Posted May 29, 2008 at 06:40 PM This sentence is short for"有没有明天去北京的人". The "的" is for "人". But the "的" in "我是明天去北京的。" is for the thing , the event. When the event has not happen , The sentence is weird.Because "是……的" means it's a certain thing. "我是明天要去北京的" is right , because you ARE going to beijing tomorrow. It emphasize your will. Actually it'll be more natural to say "我明天是要去北京的". How many people are in the group of whom going tomorrow.(I don't know if it's right.) Actually , it will be diffrent in diffrent condition."有没有明天去北京的?" emphasize "有没有",“我是明天去北京的" emphasize ”明天“(It was tomorrow when i go to bejing)."我明天是要去北京的" emphasize "要“(I AM going to bejing tomorrow)."有多少人是明天去的啊?" emphasize "多少". I wish it would help you . Quote
freefall Posted May 30, 2008 at 01:36 PM Author Report Posted May 30, 2008 at 01:36 PM Thank you, that helps. This is a very interesting and subtle structure. By the way it's best to just say "how many people in the group are going tomorrow?" Quote
freefall Posted June 1, 2008 at 12:41 AM Author Report Posted June 1, 2008 at 12:41 AM What if instead of 我是明天去北京的, I say 我就是明天去北京的,to emphasize 我就是明天去的人。 Is that okay? Quote
