stephanhodges Posted June 1, 2008 at 10:26 AM Report Share Posted June 1, 2008 at 10:26 AM Anyone else read this story about a headmaster who raised 40 wan to reenforce his school construction AND held weekly disaster drills long before the earthquake? When the quake hit, all the students and teachers evacuated in under 2 minutes. The building is still standing too. http://home.donews.com/donews/article/1/125698.html I haven't seen this on any English sites. A Chinese friend sent it to me. The article is a little beyond my capacity to read quickly.

nnt Posted June 1, 2008 at 11:03 AM Report Share Posted June 1, 2008 at 11:03 AM The question is : why is he an exception, and not the rule? Why so many buildings were built without regard to antisismic standards (if any )
imron Posted June 1, 2008 at 11:15 AM Report Share Posted June 1, 2008 at 11:15 AM Hopefully stories like this will encourage schools to hold regular evacuation and safety drills, although the article states the drills were held not on a weekly basis, but on a semesterly basis, which is probably about right.
