Foreigners can't overdrink with Chinese people law. What's with this?

I kind of agree with tony1343, it's almost insulting that we're viewed as people who are so low brow and crude that we need to be told not to insult women.

It seems that sometimes they don't think how their words will be interpreted.

Maybe instead of "don't insult women", they really wanted to say don't use the services of working girls, but the committee couldn't work out a polite way to say that.

Really what it should be is:

Foreigners must not get drunk with random strangers in a bar and then get into a fight after discussing politics, like that guy Sam did three semesters back. We had to go down to the police station to get him at 4am and it was all a bit of an embarrassing hassle. So the government made a new law.

Foreigners must also not have affairs with married women, as we've just had our reception area repaired after the retaliation for the last time this happened*. Actually in general please stay away from our women. This is also a new law.

*This actually happened at a school I used to work for, although it was before I worked there. Irate husband and his mates came round and smashed up the front desk area.

I think roddy hit the nail on the head! HA-HA! Oh man, that's funny! What makes it even funnier is probably how close to the truth it is. Although I might add that what is meant by "insulting women" might also mean bold sexual advances or using sexual language. A lot of foreign men seem to think it's their duty to sexually liberate Chinese women, and ask them how often they masturbate, or talk about what color panties they are wearing. I know a guy who asked his female middle school students what color their panties were as part of his English class. Really too much . . .

You hit the nail on the head on both counts. Not a year can go by in my local community without hearing about some teacher in the area getting in trouble for sexual misconduct with a student. My area has the dubious distinction of having teachers who are the gold standard for misconduct (Mary Kay LeTourneau).

Maybe Chris Hansen can do a Dateline special in Beijing. If the US cops arrest the predators in a no-nonsense style, I'd love to see how the Beijing cops handle the pervs.

WTH is "overdrinking"? If you drink too much water, would you be sanctioned for using the restroom too much? If you drink too much orange juice, would you get in trouble if you broke out in hives? Would a second bottle of 啤酒 be considered "overdrinking"?

What is "insulting women"? If I turn down a woman's advances, and she gets offended, would I be at risk for a violaton? If I get a date with a woman, and her sister wanted me to ask her out instead, would I get in trouble? I hope my ex-wife won't decide to follow me to CN to take advantage of the situation.
