do you have to get a visa to visit shenzhen?

You're going to need to tell us your nationality before anyone can even attempt to answer.

Because visa regulation is different for different nationality... (well.. obvious enough!)

Have you tried to find out yourself? Should be easy enough: there's the internet, Chinese embassies and consulates, travel agencies...

If you're arriving in Hong Kong, just go to your closest CTS (China Travel Service office), and get a visa. Alternatively you can get one in the US.

The only people I know who can get into China without a visa are overseas Chinese with HK ID and home return permits...

Yes you need a visa. If you're going to Hong Kong - don't bother to go to the consulate in the US - just go to Hong Kong and get it done yourself. Either through a travel agent or go down to the China Resources Building in Wanchai and do it yourself.

^^ I think all of you would need a visa. The reason is that there is no travel

restrictions in most parts of China other than Tibet and maybe some really

remote places, therefore once you get into 1 mainland city, no one can or will

stop you from going to any other parts of China.

To be honest, I don't know the details which would change depending on where

you are. But I think the local Chinese embassy or a travel agency should be

able to handle the visa issue. The general impression I have is that as long as

you are not a well-known anti-Chinese government person, the visa should

just be a formality and you or your friends shouldn't have any trouble getting it.
