onebir Posted June 8, 2008 at 06:27 AM Report Share Posted June 8, 2008 at 06:27 AM The inbuilt Memo software on the Palm lets you write notes in Chinese, but these aren't legible on Palm desktop, or after export from Palm desktop to txt (or whatever) format. Is there a way round this?
ipsi() Posted June 8, 2008 at 07:21 AM Report Share Posted June 8, 2008 at 07:21 AM You'll need to either set your computer's non-Unicode encoding to GB2312 (Simplified Chinese), or use AppLocale to do the same thing. It's been done before, just do a search for AppLocale (it may even be on the Wiki...). Assuming you're using Windows XP, by the way.
onebir Posted June 9, 2008 at 07:47 AM Author Report Share Posted June 9, 2008 at 07:47 AM Cheers - works perfectly. You just have to jump through the "genuine advantage" hoop to get them to let you download the AppLocale installer. (I imagine the it's available for download elsewhere if that's an obstacle...) jychina Posted May 25, 2009 at 12:50 PM Report Share Posted May 25, 2009 at 12:50 PM Yep, so far applocal works great for being able to see chinese characters on palm desktop. this website also shows how to easily install applocal on Windows Vista: http://www.mydigitallife.info/2007/05/26/workaround-to-install-microsoft-applocale-utility-in-windows-vista/ Palm s/w and handhelds are still the easiest to use. i really hope the continue support for this.
