Scoobyqueen Posted June 10, 2008 at 02:22 PM Report Posted June 10, 2008 at 02:22 PM Is there a difference between 依靠 and 凭. From the text I have been reading they seem to be synonyms but it could just be that 凭 was less common. Alternatively, it is possible that if there is a difference the 凭 is more used for scientific or verifiable facts. If anyone can comment on this question, I would be grateful. Thank you in advance. chenpv Posted June 10, 2008 at 02:41 PM Report Posted June 10, 2008 at 02:41 PM 依, from its origin, depicts a 'person in its clothes' sort of dependence. It is much more of a direct, emotional, physical or material dependence. 凭, from its origin, depicts a 'some giant watch out its back' sort of dependence. It is much more of indirect, legal, logical or obligatory dependence. Quote
