recinto Posted June 12, 2008 at 10:30 AM Report Posted June 12, 2008 at 10:30 AM Hi everybody. I'm going to Beijing from about july 22nd to august 20th and I'm trying to find some place to stay. I will be taking a course in BLCU but I'd prefer not to live in the dormitory. Do you think it'd be possible to find something for this short period of time? Are there rooms in shared flats usually rented per months? I welcome every suggestion. Thanks. Quote

marcusat Posted June 13, 2008 at 08:13 AM Report Posted June 13, 2008 at 08:13 AM it's not necessarily as negative as "no", but things are going to be much more expensive because of the olympics. Searching through websites like 'craigslist beijing' can provide places for about US$1000 per month but they are rare, and most are charging astronomical prices. home-stays may still be in operation which may save you money but will still be trying to cash in on the Olympics. I would recommend for ease and saving money that you take halls of residence if you get the opportunity. There are,m however, expensive alternatives. Quote

self-taught-mba Posted June 16, 2008 at 04:05 AM Report Posted June 16, 2008 at 04:05 AM US$1000 a month is astronomical already Not for short-term of one month. My competition upped their prices to ~$900 /mo for short-term. I may have to follow suit. Short of hostels there's not much else. Hotels are always expensive. Quote
LaoLiang Posted June 16, 2008 at 06:19 AM Report Posted June 16, 2008 at 06:19 AM No - Olympics. MBA, no need to be so negative and pessimistic, in fact I know someone who is renting under-a-bridge-used-carton-boxes for reasonable amount, e.g. 40x60x80 for 500EUR (no, sorry, he won't take USD anymore). self-taught-mba Posted June 16, 2008 at 02:03 PM Report Posted June 16, 2008 at 02:03 PM Sorry if it sounded so terse - no voice software that day. But then again... So many people are coming here or want to and are just oblivious to the fact that things in any Olympic city are going to be more expensive while it is going on. Even if the final prices are lower, people aren't ready to drop them just yet and there are landlords that actually believe they can do just what LaoLiang said. On the other side and just as ridiculous are those who expect to pay normal prices. We get inquiries for people wanting to pay 50 kuai a night during the Olympics. I kid you not. Official homestay prices are $60 or $85 a night. Quote
flameproof Posted June 16, 2008 at 03:25 PM Report Posted June 16, 2008 at 03:25 PM MBA, no need to be so negative and pessimistic, in fact I know someone who is renting under-a-bridge-used-carton-boxes for reasonable amount, e.g. 40x60x80 for 500EUR (no, sorry, he won't take USD anymore). Note: that includes the 40x60x80 space but not the actual carton. That will cost extra. I would avoid BJ and study in Dalian or any other norther place. The more boring the better. Quote
