freefall Posted June 14, 2008 at 02:14 PM Report Posted June 14, 2008 at 02:14 PM Is 话说 by any chance a verb on it's own? (In Chinese called a 偏正短语。) For example, 呵呵,好强啊你:话说,话说又话说 http://pipi0209da.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!5e0826e4b6b4f6f8!632.entry 话说话说.... 真让布布烦恼 http://www.flycoo.net/simple/index.php?t16788242.html Quote
Annaliu Posted June 15, 2008 at 11:02 AM Report Posted June 15, 2008 at 11:02 AM If "话说" uses solely, it is a special usage in Chinese, imitating archaic Chinese. For example, 话说1939年9月1日,第二次世界大战爆发。 It is said that the second world war broke out on Sep.1st, 1939. "话说" is usually used in preterite and add object behind, "1939年9月1日,第二次世界大战爆发" is the object in this sentence. In fact, "话说" is a passive voice, means "话被说". This content of "话" is behind of "说". If "话说" uses with other words together, it is different. For example, 换句话说,你比他更出色。 In other words, you are better than him. In this sentence, "换句话说" is adverbial modifier, "你" is subject,"比" is verb,"他" is object,"更出色" is complement. Another example, 他脸红了,没有话说。 He reddened without words. This is a complex sentence, "他脸红了" is a sentence and "没有话说" is a sentence. "没有" is verb, "话" is object, "说" is complement. Ok, if you have interest, we would communicate in future. Thanks! Quote
