colin.hroberts Posted June 17, 2008 at 01:27 AM Report Posted June 17, 2008 at 01:27 AM Hi everyone! I am a Canadian university student and I was thinking that I might head to China to continue my mandarin studies in Beijing. I am thinking either BeiDa or BCLU, but that's another matter (though if you'd like to comment on which you'd think is better, i'd be much obliged). My real question is this: all of the applications that I've come across require a medical before being finally accepted. However, I am diabetic. I am healthy in all other regards, my blood sugar is well under control, and complications are pretty much a non-issue at this point for me. Will I be allowed to study in China? Thanks so much to anyone who might know the answer! Quote
Josu- Posted June 17, 2008 at 11:36 PM Report Posted June 17, 2008 at 11:36 PM Hi: I'm diabetic and I have been accepted to study at BLCU this september, and they didn't ask me any medical report or something similar... Quote
colin.hroberts Posted June 18, 2008 at 02:19 AM Author Report Posted June 18, 2008 at 02:19 AM oh excellent! thank you so much!! (I assume you are type 1 as well if you are going to university?) I hope that's the case! Have a great time in China! Quote
cdn_in_bj Posted June 18, 2008 at 05:39 AM Report Posted June 18, 2008 at 05:39 AM I think you'll be fine. The medical exam that's required as part of the application for a residence permit only checks for certain infectious diseases such as HIV and Syphilis. Quote
Josu- Posted June 18, 2008 at 01:38 PM Report Posted June 18, 2008 at 01:38 PM yep, I'm type 1. If you want, once I'm there, I can tell you if I had any problem with taking the insulin with me as hand-luggage at the customs Quote
colin.hroberts Posted June 20, 2008 at 05:36 AM Author Report Posted June 20, 2008 at 05:36 AM sweet thanks! i'd love to know if it's a hassle at all...and let me know how you like BCLU. Gracias //Colin Quote
Josu- Posted September 11, 2008 at 05:15 AM Report Posted September 11, 2008 at 05:15 AM well, I'm already here and there wasn't any problem with the insulin. In my hand-lugagge I carried 6-7 box of novorapid/levemir (http://www.novonordisk.cl/Images/chile/2007/novorapid_flexpen/novorapid_flexpen_caja.jpg), a box of 100 needdles, and nobody tell me anything, they didn't even ask for the prescriptions. So I think you will have no problems Quote

aroundzw Posted October 1, 2008 at 07:52 PM Report Posted October 1, 2008 at 07:52 PM Of course you can. The universities in China do not care if you are healthy or not. Just give them cash, they will allow you do anything(sh)... And just take care of yourself. The food in BLCU is really good, but with a lot of sugar usually. Remember to tell the waitress do not put sugar in your meal. Quote
Yasha Posted October 4, 2008 at 08:39 AM Report Posted October 4, 2008 at 08:39 AM ^ Agree the food is very good over there Just a little too oily at my taste. But be careful for the Muslim restaurant. Every time I ate there I had problems... Quote
