if you wanted to tell somebody their child was "cute" is there a good word for this?

i've been taught haokan [very good to look at] and piaoliang [attractive]

which both seem inappropiate in a western sense to say to someone about their child.

it almost sounds like i am a child molestor.

—你女儿真可爱! (随她妈! if you add this seems you are flirting with her mom  )

—你儿子看起来很聪明!

可爱

Use "hen" (very) 很 or "hao" (good/has sense of very) 好 in front of "ke ai".

ex.

很可爱

or

好可爱

Add an a at the end for effect..

I've heard that some foreigners also feel amazed at the phrase "又胖又白" (fat and white) --- it's to tell a child is healthy and cute.

BTW, what will you say to appraise other's children? Smart... Clever.. Nice?

If i say they are cute and beautiful, will i be a ...hmm. pervert?

well, i'm not sure whether you are from america or not, but it is pretty standard to say oh wow you have a really cute/good looking baby/kid, and it isn't considered perverted..

unless you have a record for those kinda things

I suggest you not use 好 if you are a guy or you are over 25 yrs old.

好 sounds sissy.

wait..........

hao sounds sissy in this context or in general??

hao is my favorite word!!!

in this context and in a few others.

but since you are a foreigner its okay, people won't think of it that way.

saying 可爱 is in a way sissy, anyways.
