plee139 Posted June 9, 2004 at 08:09 AM Report Posted June 9, 2004 at 08:09 AM Hi all Does anyone know of any software (Windows PC, Palm OS or Windows CE) offering: (1) a Simplified Chinese (Chinese-to-Chinese) dictionary (2) Putonghua pronunciation of individual characters and, ideally, phrases. This would preferably be done via a real human voice, not synthesized. I am keen to learn Chinese using a PC or PDA, and any pointers will be most helpful and welcome. Thanks in advance! Peter Quote

plee139 Posted June 9, 2004 at 10:58 PM Author Report Posted June 9, 2004 at 10:58 PM Thanks, jj. Does Jinshan Ciba have a Putonghua pronunciation feature (in addition to an English one)? If so, does it use a natural human voice? Thanks again. Peter Quote
jj Posted June 10, 2004 at 04:50 AM Report Posted June 10, 2004 at 04:50 AM Yes, it does have a Putonghua pronounciation feature. It sounds like it's recorded, although it doesn't sound all that natural. The real strength of jscb is it's Chinese-Chinese dictionary. The Chinese-English is just an add-on, but the way the two of them are put together make it really useful. And it's very easy to get a copy in China, for cheap of course. jj Quote
