AloneInTheDark Posted June 20, 2008 at 03:15 PM Report Posted June 20, 2008 at 03:15 PM Hello everyone i am new here and i need some help from yours guys. I need anyone who translate from english on china this text and paint/write for me chinese calligraphy. I need it for photoshop If anyone know good text can add here ofc with calligraphy(from lyrics of song, from any book etc.) The good times of today are the sad thoughts of tomorrow Friends are angels who lift us to our feet when our wings have trouble remembering how to fly. The future starts today, not tomorrow. My one regret in life is that I am not someone else. We live, as we dream - alone. Never fear shadows, for shadows only mean there is a light shining somewhere near by. The starry skies above me and the moral law inside me. To see the world in grain of sand, and the sky in beautiful flower. To close infinity in the palm of your hand, and eternity in hour. Each day is drive through history. He that dies pays all debts. For all helps thank you:) Quote

Oliver_CL Posted June 27, 2008 at 03:09 AM Report Posted June 27, 2008 at 03:09 AM studentyoung, you good JOB!! I think the english sentences are the translation of the chinese ones you gave here. Personally, compared with chinese ones, the english ones looked so bland. Quote

Lethe Posted July 13, 2008 at 10:55 AM Report Posted July 13, 2008 at 10:55 AM ......studentyoung's translations....I think...are not quite good... I guess he just want to add some kind of 文言味...But...To put it bluntly...he didn't suceed. 乃我等于九天折翅之时,垫于我等足下 I think move "于" before "我" may be better.(乃于我....) why?To avoid subject inconsistency. But where is the latter “于”(于...时)?It is omitted.Don't worry, it can be.And "垫于" feels strange.I don't know which word is better. It is the most awful one.双音节词(two syllable words??) should be avoid if you can. "是" feels too modern, "乃" better. "影者,光所依" might be brief and better instead of "所谓....也".(You might think of "福兮祸所依:mrgreen:") 头顶星空朗朗,心存伦理昭昭。 It is the best one.but 伦理 better be replaced.(义理?理义? or something else?) This one has various version on the Internet.I've no idea which one is the best.(:mrgreen:I feel none is good."一花(沙)一世界" alone is enough:D)Such poems are from Buddhism. 是被柳永的词感动了才放上这个词吧嘿嘿 :D:D:D But I should say, studentyoung, well done anyway! I love most florazheng's translations. (文言 is just a way to serve this purpose) I'm sorry I can't contribute anything. If I try, I shall regret someday.I'm kind of a perfectionist:D:D Quote

(You don't mind it, I suppose. Hehe. ) Thank you so much for polishing my translation in this post and in others! The dreams in which I'm dying are the best I've ever had. Cheers! Lethe Posted July 14, 2008 at 04:55 AM Report Posted July 14, 2008 at 04:55 AM The dreams in which I'm dying are the best I've ever had.
studentyoung Posted July 14, 2008 at 06:24 AM Report Posted July 14, 2008 at 06:24 AM The dreams in which I'm dying are the best I've ever had. I really don’t know how to explain it. I just can’t help thinking of an anecdote about Lincoln, which you might have heard of it. It is said that Lincoln once told his friend that he had an odd dream. In it, he saw a lot of people just mourning in front of a coffin at a hall in White House. He asked them who died. They told him that it was President Lincoln who was assassinated. Of course, his friend took it as a funny joke, and soon forgot it. A few days later, this horrible dream came true. Not unique but as a double, Baoyu in “A Dream of Red Mansions” once had a dream that he went visit the fairy land called Although the fairy lady 警幻仙子 tried to enlighten him and even arranged her younger sister 可卿 as Baoyu’s wife, Baoyu still couldn’t come to his sense. At the end of this dream, he even brought himself to the brink of ruin, shouting in vain, “可卿, help me! 可卿, help me!” In the sentence above, it gives me an impression that this one either takes those dreams as something funny or feels too late to do something. ... Take it easy and forget it. By the way, I think your English is pretty good. Cheers! Quote

This is a Chinese translation of Auguries of Innocence by William Blake. His religious views were complex, but his background at least was Judeo-Christian. Actually, the original poem goes on for several pages - it is a really compelling rant. As far as I can see though, only the first four lines have been translated into Chinese. BTW, the English should be: To see a world in a grain of sand And a heaven in a wild flower, Hold infinity in the palm of your hand And eternity in an hour. Quote
Lethe Posted July 14, 2008 at 02:31 PM Report Posted July 14, 2008 at 02:31 PM ......next time I will google to verify my idea.... buddhism isn't its origin, but the idea in it should be very buddhism-like. here "富有禅意" is a typical comment about it, which make me take buddhism as its orgin for granted...
