Hi

My name is Matthew Alberto.

Originally, I transliterated this name to Ai Ma Xiu OR 艾 马 修.

However, I realised that this was a mere transliteration, and I prefer a name to reflect a meaning that is more about my identity, but also hopefully use some sounds from my original Western name.

Instead of the name above, I was wondering, whether some native chinese speakers could check whether it would be okay for me to have a chinese name of 安 民 声 (An Min Sheng). It means "Peaceful Voice of the People."

安 (An) would transliterate my surname, and (民 声) Min Sheng, would transliterate my first name - but the whole name has a collective meaning to it as well that I feel would reflect what I'm on about.

Or is the combination of 安 民 声 too weird to be a chinese name?

Thanks

Matthew

I think it is ok. But when I see the name I understand it from another angle. Somehow I would interpret it as "pacifying people's voice" and then "snubbing people's voice". But maybe it is just me.

I myself prefer the use of 生 to 聲. 安民生 means "to settle people's livelihood".

Hi Skylee.

Thank you for your help.

Could Your version 安民生 also mean - "bringing peace to people's lives?"

If it does mean that, perhaps I will use it.

Please help.

Yes, I also think 安民生 more matches the custom of Chinese Name, it means "steady people's living". 安 is a traditional surname in China.

Somehow 安民 reminds me of 安眠... But I guess if skylee says it's ok then it's ok.

I tried not to say something but apparently I'm not the only one that had that thought...
