redemaeckers Posted June 27, 2008 at 06:21 PM Report Posted June 27, 2008 at 06:21 PM hi, i am currently working on a new graphic novel, one of the issues involved is identity cloning in china: a woman takes over the identity of a dead woman, in order to chase a chinese spy abroad. but how would she go about it? i would like to document myself very much on the theme of chinese administration regarding birth and death certificates and Social Security numbers, but can not find an appropriate site. Can anybody help me or are there people who just know? i am also very slightly (for now) learning a bit of cantonese, and would be very grateful to get to know cantonese people. thx Quote
Luobot Posted June 29, 2008 at 01:19 AM Report Posted June 29, 2008 at 01:19 AM Not that this answers your question, but this is the most exciting identity theft plot that I've ever seen. Now that a face has actually been transplanted, it's no longer science fiction. Quote
liuzhou Posted June 29, 2008 at 06:58 AM Report Posted June 29, 2008 at 06:58 AM birth and death certificates and Social Security numbers You cannot transfer American concepts to China this way. Every Chinese family has a "hukou", or a book listing the details of family members, including names, address, age, blood group, ID numbers, ethnicity, where you are authorised to live etc. There is no Social Security number, but everyone over 18 must have an ID card bearing an ID number. roddy Posted June 29, 2008 at 07:31 AM Report Posted June 29, 2008 at 07:31 AM The most feasible way is probably that she just bribes an entry-exit administration official to get the passport made up. Anything else would involve forging / obtaining other documents and then taking a trip to the woman's hometown. Also, does she actually need this person's identity? Generally when I'm pursuing spies overseas I just get a US or EU passport on the black market, as you have fewer visa issues and there's a greater resale value once that cover is blown. Quote

zozzen Posted June 30, 2008 at 01:42 AM Report Posted June 30, 2008 at 01:42 AM the title is really scary. I just thought "a breed of rice can really feed hundreds of people". And i don't understand your story. Which agency would the woman work for? If she's from Chinese agency, she won't need to steal a Chinese identity. If she's from aboard, why do she need a Chinese identity? Quote
