Will a camera bought in China work properly on US computer?

I need to buy a digital camera but I want to be sure when I plug it into the USB port on my US computer it works just like normal even though the language is different.

I just moved here to study so I do not have the capacity yet to ask questions at the store. Basically I can just walk in and buy something, so I want to know if it works before I purchase it.

Nobody can give you a 100% answer to this, but the vast majority of them should work.

Any camera with a proper USB interface should work, and that's most of them. My girlfriend has several cameras purchased in China, and we've never had any trouble transferring files to our European computers. Actually, to be honest, one of the cameras doesn't register properly on my Linux laptop, but works fine with her Mac and an older HP notebook purchased in the US.

Of course, the charger may not work when you take the camera back to the US...

I've had to buy a couple and have had no problems. As far as language, if your Chinese skills are limited, just have the clerk set the camera to English for you.

I will. All computers in the world are virtually the same. That is why we have ISO and other standards.

if the camera uses removable flash memory cards, you should be able to use a

cardreader to download your photos.

but if you intend to download directly from the camera, you'll probably be using the

software that comes on a cd packaged with the camera. which means you'll have to

install language support for your computer to display properly, then will have to understand

enough chinese to follow the directions (or click randomly until it works.....)

or check the manufacturer's website to see if they have downloadable versions of

their software in other languages.

Under Windows, there's no need for any software to install, as Windows recognises flash cards as external drives. Windows also recognises most cameras and will give you the option to import pictures after installing the appropriate driver automatically.

Thanks for all of the replies. I will give it a shot since the general response is that the ISO is standard, and if I run ito trouble I will have someone from school help me try to install or return it in the rare case there is aproblem, but from what everyone has written, I doubt it.

It will work.

But I never connect my Cam to the PC. Too troublesome. I prefer my cardreader which I just plug in. Cameras sometimes need special software, cardreaders usually not.
