dahbairtuh Posted July 3, 2008 at 07:35 AM Report Posted July 3, 2008 at 07:35 AM In the 80s and 90s there was an experiment in Heilongjiang province with the so called ZT method of teaching. ZT is short for "Zhuyin Shizi, Tiqian Duxie" 注音识字,提前读写 (‘Phonetically Annotated Recognition Promotes Earlier Reading and Writing’). With this method children were meant to achieve full literacy in Pinyin before they began to learn Characters, compared to learning Pinyin just for the standard pronunciation. Apparently it was quite successful. (There is more information about it in this this article.) Does anybody know if this ZT method is still used in education in China today? Quote
