The lyrics itself isn't offensive.

Personally, I don't like 伍佰 at all, neither the man himself nor his songs.

In my point of view, I think what this guy wants to express through the lyrics is

taiwan is a unique combination of diversified cultures, not just an extension of

chinese culture. That's my opinion, you could have your own judgement.

You might be having trouble understanding it because it is Hokkien (闽南语), not Mandarin. (It would be like looking at Spanish and commenting that it is bad Italian! )

I think it is quite a cool song. It was one of the first Taiwanese song I listened to when I started to learn a little Taiwanese.

Lozolo - it's not bad Chinese. It just not Mandarin. Do you say the same thing about a Cantonese song??

PandaRoo - Many people in Taiwan believe themselves to be 'Taiwanese'. Isn't it natural for singers to express their identity.
