BrandeX Posted July 9, 2008 at 01:07 PM Report Posted July 9, 2008 at 01:07 PM You can't. Only persons born inside China to a Chinese parent are ever Chinese. You will always be a foreigner, neither of your parents were born on the mainland either. Sorry, but you are a Filipino, just as Chinese born abroad to 2nd gen parents in the USA are americans, in NZ are kiwi's etc. I personally know several Chinese people living here that are "foreigners", even living here mostly permanently, but still have passports from other countries. Thats one factor in why I'm staying in China with my wife until we have our baby, otherwise it would only be an american (possibly "overseas-chinese" being first gen), and considered a foreigner here in China. What do you plan to do if you ever return to the US? As you may know, China does not recognize dual citizenship. Quote
BrandeX Posted July 13, 2008 at 12:15 PM Report Posted July 13, 2008 at 12:15 PM We'll be going to the USA, at least for a while next year. Whether China recognizes dual citizenship or not is somewhat irrelevant as the baby will have both a China and USA passport and birth certificate. In China it will use the Chinese one. Quote
