randall_flagg Posted July 9, 2008 at 06:25 AM Report Posted July 9, 2008 at 06:25 AM OK, my friend tells me that in her company, whenever money needs to be donated, it is automatically deducted from everybody's salary. Then the company will proudly proclaim to have donated X amount of RMB to a certain cause. Workers hate the practice, but can't really do anything. Is this just a single case or are people here seeing the same thing happening? Makes the whole donation effort for Sichuan appear in a different light! Randall Quote
roddy Posted July 15, 2008 at 05:10 PM Report Posted July 15, 2008 at 05:10 PM Definitely heard some complaints on the news about this kind of thing - being told that everyone, including you, is going to donate a certain amount, or lists of donors and amounts being put up to try and 'encourage' more donating. And then the boss of the firm gets his picture in the paper handing over your money . . . Quote
xuechengfeng Posted July 15, 2008 at 07:45 PM Report Posted July 15, 2008 at 07:45 PM Not quite the same, but I did read an article about the algae mess in Qingdao and that 20,000 people volunteered or were ordered to help with the cleanup and I imagine it was more so the latter. That's not too fun. Quote
cdn_in_bj Posted July 16, 2008 at 08:02 AM Report Posted July 16, 2008 at 08:02 AM A company forcing its employees to contribute "mandatory donations" is definitely not cool. Do these companies at least give credit to the employees when handing over the cheque? I heard that party members were also "requested" to make contributions. Forget the amount though. Quote
