ZDT: Annotator Font Use

Using 0.8 sandbox version of zdt, java6u7, and vista.

How comes annotator randomly choses a font displaying pinyin (and sometimes seems to pick a really ugly, hard to read one)? Why doesn't zdt annotator just use the fonts I have specified in preferences?
