赫杰 Posted July 16, 2008 at 03:28 AM Report Posted July 16, 2008 at 03:28 AM Hello all, got the book craving. Looking for something lighter and modern. A fiction novel. No classics or books with heavy references to ancient Chinese please. Genres include anything from action, adventure, mystery (no romance novels), and so forth. Also I tend to read more technology-centric chinese material, so something involving tech would great too. Light and modern are key words here. If you read such a book that just really stuck with you, please let me know! Thank you all! J Quote

atitarev Posted July 17, 2008 at 10:45 PM Report Posted July 17, 2008 at 10:45 PM I have just made a review of the book I am reading: Book review: Graded Chinese Reader 1 (汉语分级阅读1), which fits your description and I recommend it. Quote
赫杰 Posted July 22, 2008 at 02:04 AM Author Report Posted July 22, 2008 at 02:04 AM atitarev, thanks, but I'm afraid this a little too light for me. Decided on 球状闪电, it's ok so far. Quote

Philee Posted October 9, 2008 at 02:59 AM Report Posted October 9, 2008 at 02:59 AM Man, this is a little hard 'cause contemporary writers all tend to employ more or less 文言 writing styles. As I have suggested in another topics, start with some ancient poems may be a wiser choice. It certainly helps you come to another 境界 of Chinese after which when you turn back to contemporary novels, everything becomes so easy and all in a sudden beauty of Chinese once hid from you come out in such an amazement. But if you are not ready to explore more of the language. I recommend you following writers who are famous for plain 白话 writing style. 赵树理 who write for rustic people 《小二黑结婚》《李有才板话》 冰心 who write for children 《再寄小读者》《我们把春天吵醒了》《小桔灯》《冰心散文选》 But I think no more writer will write like them any more. If you need more plain 白话 articles, go for the 小学《语文》课本. Quote
chedfield Posted November 10, 2008 at 09:05 AM Report Posted November 10, 2008 at 09:05 AM Lighter, modern fiction novel... maybr you can take 九把刀's novels in to consider. He is one of the most famous young writers from Taiwan. (But the book is in tranditional Chinese.) I think his works are very interesting. I personally recommend "樓下的房客". Quote
