I intend to enroll in Sun Yat-sen University for Hotel Management.

I was wondering if it's a good choice?

How's the school like over there? Quality wise.

I heard that studying in China will have a drop of standard in English language.

Since is a Mandarin Speaking country.

I wonder if it's true too?

Hoping forumers can clear the doubts in my mind.

Thanks.

Back in the Day, I looked into studying chinese there.

The campus is really nice, expicially since most of Guandong is factories, there is a river and lots of trees and grass.

The Academics looked fairly good (it has a high ranking nationally) , though the classes would be taught in Mandarin. I am not sure about Hotel Management classes (Probably also in Mandarin.)

The main reason I didn't end up going there was that as soon as you stepped off campus most common people spoke yue yu (cantonese).

I like getting out and meeting people so this was a draw back from me.

The seafood and Fish balls were very good though .

Good luck,

Simon:)

As a fresh Alumnus of Sun Yat-sen, I am happy to share a bit on my alma mater. It's formerly called Zhongshan U., and is ranked amongst the top 10 national Universities in China. I got to know from a friend(who had enrolled in the Management department) that the Hotel management major is competitive nationally, and currently ranked as the first.

There are 4 campuses of Sun Yat-sen, 3 of them are located in Canton while 1 in Zhuhai. Will you enroll in the graduate or undergraduate program? In the latter case you might be assigned to the Zhuhai campus for the first two years.

I often see internatinal students in the Southern campus, from various countries including Japan, Korea, US., France etc. All courses will be taught in mandarin and some of them may be in English. Within the campus you won't have much chance to hear Cantonese because most staffs and students are not locals. Even if they are(like me), they need to use mandarin as the tool for communication.

next year Sun Yat-sen !! Hi there.... about the thread people always will speak to you in the language you speak to them.... and I fullly agree with melop mandarin is communication specially for us foreigners.

It's like in UK, if you go to Wales they speak Welsh but every single time I speak to them in English I found a kind answer in English...

Same over here in South America.... there are some local languages but I'm a native and I do not speak any, so anywhere I go I speak Spanish and they reply in Spanish ....simple...

guys if you can tell me how to find the ranking of Universities in China.... I'd appreciated !
