sl234 Posted July 19, 2008 at 02:03 PM Report Posted July 19, 2008 at 02:03 PM I was interested in taking a one week intensive Mandarin course in Xiamen. The University does not offer individual classes. The only school is a "live in your teacher's" home for a week." Interesting but probably not my first choice. I am looking for about 6-7 hours/day of intensive practice - group or individual. Does anyone have any recommendations? Thanks in advance Quote
Scoobyqueen Posted July 20, 2008 at 04:11 PM Report Posted July 20, 2008 at 04:11 PM I cant speak for Xiamen, but when I looked into intensive courses in Beijing (immersion courses), it was usually just 4 hours a day but with homestays. I ended up organising individual classes (one-to-one lessens) six hours a day. I rented a flat by myself and I found this was a good choice as I needed another 3/4 hours to prepare for the lessons the next day. The additional practice outside class was through Chinese friends or having conversations with people I met. You may be able to organise something similar in Xiamen. I find small schools with a young and enthusiastic management to be very good. I was lucky in so far that my teachers were Tsinghua grads mainly. They were basically very demanding when it came to homework and preparation and results in class. Quote
