nathanuk88 Posted July 21, 2008 at 04:26 PM Report Posted July 21, 2008 at 04:26 PM Hey all, im a student at University studying Chinese. I would like to go to China at the end of the summer if possible, but obviously my budget is pretty tight! Does anyone know or can suggest the cheapest way to get to China? Such as by train, half flight half train, etc. Many thanks Quote
Lu Posted July 21, 2008 at 05:25 PM Report Posted July 21, 2008 at 05:25 PM Don't know about the cost, but to take the train from the UK to China takes at least two weeks. Only recommended if you have too much time on your hands. I think the cheapest way is to fly into one of the big cities, Beijing, Shanghai or Hong Kong. You can try comparing fares from other cities in Europe, I find that flying from Germany for example is often cheaper than from Holland. One site that often has cheap tickets is statravel.de (they also have offices in other countries). Also, consider not going this summer but some other time, because of the Olympics prices are bound to be sky high. Quote
liuzhou Posted July 21, 2008 at 05:34 PM Report Posted July 21, 2008 at 05:34 PM You could try cycling here. You wouldn't be the first. Quote
roddy Posted July 21, 2008 at 05:42 PM Report Posted July 21, 2008 at 05:42 PM You'll be eligible for youth / student fares, so try STA Travel or similar. Getting in touch with Chinatown travel agents can be good, they often have good fares. Indirect flights are usually cheaper - ie via Dubai with Emirates, Moscow with Aeroflot, etc. Quote
