Entropy_Rising Posted July 23, 2008 at 01:10 AM Report Posted July 23, 2008 at 01:10 AM Hi all, I've studied in China before but I did it with my school's program which hired a company to take care of the paperwork. Now I'm applying just as an individual so I have to do the forms myself. I have a simple question I hope you could help me out with. The admissions office at the university I applied to has already supplied me with an invitation letter and a partially filled out JW202. There are two blank spaces left to fill but I'm not entirely sure what to put. The first is Reference & Tel. I'm not sure if this is your standard "professional/professor who knows you well reference" because the Chinese says 推荐单位. Wouldn't the danwei that is tuijian-ing me be the universities admission office? Can I just put their office's name and phone number there (but if that were the case I'm not sure why they didn't fill that part out when they gave it to me). Or should I just put the number of a good old fashioned reference? The second part I'm confused is right under it, Guarantor and Tel. I'm not even sure what this is. 事务担保人 seems to be someone who has the "legal right to vouch" for me but that doesn't clarify things for this blockhead one bit. Also in the Chinese there's the untranslated 在华 which means whoever this person is its someone in China (or at least supposed to be). Anybody know what to do with these fields? Thanks in advance. billiardsmike Posted July 23, 2008 at 11:14 PM Report Posted July 23, 2008 at 11:14 PM Since the JW202 is an official form that has already been issued, I wouldn't do a thing to it. You're just as likely to cause a problem, perhaps voiding it. Leave it as is. If you're handling your own residence permit, simply have a couple of name ready to fill in if asked to by the PSB. I believe guarantor is the person or contact for any organization funding your study. Since I was self-funded, a friend and I simply put down each others names on the initial applications. As far as reference, I think I listed an old friend. It's not verified. If the school is handling your paperwork upon registration, let them worry about it. Just have the names ready. Just don't mess with official forms - they get a little testy about that. Quote
Entropy_Rising Posted July 23, 2008 at 11:21 PM Author Report Posted July 23, 2008 at 11:21 PM Thanks. That's a simple solution, and I'll give it a shot (if it doesn't go through I have enough time to try again). Like you, I'm self supporting so there really is no official guarantor. I'll throw a name out if necessary. Quote
roddy Posted July 23, 2008 at 11:34 PM Report Posted July 23, 2008 at 11:34 PM If you check the other threads tagged 'guarantor' you'll find people have made stuff up or I think left it blank. Quote
billiardsmike Posted July 24, 2008 at 07:10 AM Report Posted July 24, 2008 at 07:10 AM I'm a little confused. If what doesn't go through? Your visa application? If that's the case, don't worry. I doubt a visa will be refused because of a blank on an official form. You already satisfied someone well enough to get a JW-202; the rest should be a cake-walk. Just don't do the stupid thing I did and send the original with your visa app. A copy will suffice. You'll need the original to satisfy the PSB once you've arrived here. They can be rather picky about that. Quote
