TCcookie Posted July 27, 2008 at 05:14 AM Report Posted July 27, 2008 at 05:14 AM I was wondering if anybody might be able to help me subscribe to the magazine 读者. I live in the US. I've found it on amazon.com, but it's $70 for a year, and the cover price is 3元. I checked their website, but it looks like they have some kind of international version for people outside of China (though I very well could have read that wrong--my Chinese isn't the best). I want the Chinese version (even if the only difference between the two are the ads), and I want it cheap, if possible. Does anyone in the US or elsewhere outside of China subscribe to the magazine? How do you go about it? Quote
imron Posted July 27, 2008 at 06:15 AM Report Posted July 27, 2008 at 06:15 AM and the cover price is 3元.Yeah, but living in the US, you'll need to factor in another 150 元 for postage Is there a particular reason you want the Chinese one and not the overseas edition? It seems the overseas edition can be subscribed to for USD 3 per issue. If you haven't seen it already, they have US contact information on the bottom of this page: http://www.readerstimes.com/Content/north-order.aspx Quote
889 Posted July 27, 2008 at 11:56 AM Report Posted July 27, 2008 at 11:56 AM Since it's bi-weekly, that $3/issue works out to about $70/year. If you download the PDF order form from that link above, you'll see it gives the option of ordering either a fantizi or jiantizi version of the magazine. I suspect the "overseas edition" is simply the fantizi version, and good enough reason for the OP to want the domestic one. You'll sometimes find back copies on ebay. Quote
roddy Posted July 27, 2008 at 12:39 PM Report Posted July 27, 2008 at 12:39 PM If you aren't worried about getting the latest issue hot off the presses, there are also 合订本 available from Amazon.cn like this. Quote
TCcookie Posted July 29, 2008 at 12:04 AM Author Report Posted July 29, 2008 at 12:04 AM Thanks everyone for the responses and suggestions. Roddy, I'll probably go with one of those 合订本3. Thanks for the link. If anyone cares, I just looked on on Amazon again and it seems the price went down since the last time I checked, too, down to $52.50 for a year. Quote

TCcookie Posted August 5, 2008 at 04:32 PM Author Report Posted August 5, 2008 at 04:32 PM Well, I finally just subscribed to it--through Amazon. For some reason, though, I assumed it wasn't the international edition. I guess we'll see what comes in a couple weeks. I'll post then, in case anyone's interested. Quote
lilongyue Posted August 7, 2008 at 02:43 AM Report Posted August 7, 2008 at 02:43 AM Well, it's probably too late now, but did you know there is a Chinese language newspaper printed in San Francisco? If all you want is to read printed Chinese, then you could have looked up and ordered that newspaper. I'm sure that they could mail it to you in. Last time I went back to the States from China, I had a layover in the SF airport. That Chinese language newspaper was for sale there along with all the others. It had a lot of news articles from major newspapers in China, Taiwan and Hong Kong. It was all traditional characters. What is the reason you want that magazine in particular? Quote
gkung Posted August 7, 2008 at 07:52 PM Report Posted August 7, 2008 at 07:52 PM You might also want to check with your local library (or libraries from the near-by towns.) My neighbor town (Bedford, MA) library subscribes it. Quote
TCcookie Posted August 9, 2008 at 10:35 PM Author Report Posted August 9, 2008 at 10:35 PM Thanks for the suggestions. I actually don't want a newspaper. The reason I want Duzhe is because I think it's exactly what my Chinese to take the next step: it's got lots of different articles about all sorts of things, most of which I can get the gist of or better without a dictionary but still have lots of useful vocabulary, and the articles are short so I don't feel stuck in an article longer than I would have liked. My university library subscribes to hundreds of Chinese periodicals, 读者 among them. Unfortunately, they are non-circulating, and I want to be able to read them at home and carry them around in my backpack. Quote
Guest ishtarxi Posted August 12, 2008 at 05:52 AM Report Posted August 12, 2008 at 05:52 AM U have an eye for Chines magzine, 读者 is the most popular magazine in China. My teacher recommend it to me when i am 11 year old, and the select, warm stories guide me to choose my way. Certainly, a great deal of reading helps me to write well. I've got dozens of magzine in my bookcase now. But if U need e-book, which could be print out, please email me: isharxi#gmail.com (Please replace # by @) Quote
