jj Posted June 13, 2004 at 07:43 PM Report Posted June 13, 2004 at 07:43 PM Ok, you all may be interested in the launch of some new software at China Study Group: a combination translation wiki and a Chinese -> English wiktionary. It's a pretty nifty, so check it out at: http://www.chinastudygroup.org/translation/index.php It's new and fairly untested, so please be patient, but most things seem to work. Anyone who helps out in the translation of any article will be duly attributed. cheers, jj Quote
geek_frappa Posted June 15, 2004 at 01:25 AM Report Posted June 15, 2004 at 01:25 AM looks. good. how are you pinyinizing? Quote
jj Posted June 15, 2004 at 03:11 AM Author Report Posted June 15, 2004 at 03:11 AM geek_frappa, the site displays whatever pinyin is entered for the vocab entry from the wiktionary, so it's up to the person who adds/edits the entry to get it right. the tones are displayed by running a little php script that searches for and replaces [pinyin + tone number] with the tonemark. if you log in, you can set in the preference whether you want to display pinyin and tone numbers, or tonemarks (since the latter look horrible in some browsers) jj Quote
geek_frappa Posted June 15, 2004 at 03:21 AM Report Posted June 15, 2004 at 03:21 AM it may not be the browsers, though... it's the fonts you are using with un-extended character sets... Times New Roman helps for the tonemarks pinyin... Quote
jj Posted June 15, 2004 at 03:54 AM Author Report Posted June 15, 2004 at 03:54 AM oh, thanks for the hint! it's like night and day. I'll change that as soon as I can. Quote
