北 as goodbye?

Recently a Chinese person in an IM put the 北 character at the end of our conversation like this (she wrote two messages):

- 那 再见

- 北·······

I never encountered this before. Is there a meaning for this character that is applicable, or maybe it's just a fancy way of using 北 as a pictograph (its etymology is described as two people back to back which makes sense for parting)?

Thanks!

I think it is much simpler than that. Some people just like to write 北北 for "bye bye" and 北 for "bye". Take a look ->

It's just like some people like to write 拜拜 for "bye bye".
