Hi l have a question

All l read and hear my friend say go to bei jing to study etc. But WHY???

Is it better here to learn or what! how come fudan in shang hai is so popular even

the environment here isnt good at all for mandarin studies since they speak other dialect?

Many other cities people choose to study mandarin also l can see.

I'am going to xiamen, but then my gf friend said l will never learn mandarin here and they speak shit.mandarin :o

So now my head is little confused, can people tell if the difference really mather like this.

cheers all

Accent doesn't matter (to a learner) if you are consisent and can be understood. Everyone thinks the accent next town sounds like shit anyway. It only matters to the communist party's media and communications department, who'd go thru great lengths and spend unnecessary money to make sure all TV broadcasts are dubbed in the "proper" accent. If people thought like them or took them seriously, most of the politicians and rich business people would have to be sent to accent rehabs.

then l will keep going to xiamen, they are cheap and reply fast in the mail.

And l'am happy if l dont see so many westerns. Also like it close to hk :)

Anybody have experience from xiamen uni?
