Sjaak Posted August 22, 2008 at 09:43 PM Report Share Posted August 22, 2008 at 09:43 PM Hi all, A while ago, like 6 years, i got myself a tatoo. As i was told it was the chinese horoscope sign of the roaster but after looking it up myself i saw that my tatoo and the images i can find of the roaster sign differ a lot. Now i'm just plain wondering what it means and it's even a horoscope sign at all! Here's the picture: I hope you all can help me out with this one... renzhe Posted August 23, 2008 at 01:12 PM Report Share Posted August 23, 2008 at 01:12 PM I'm afraid that's not a Chinese character at all, and I have a hard time imagining what character it was supposed to be. Rooster is 鸡 (or 鷄 or 雞), and one could imagine that it was this character, but botched up (there are some similarities), but the tattoo really does not resemble this character. liuzhou Posted August 23, 2008 at 01:17 PM Report Share Posted August 23, 2008 at 01:17 PM Ha ha! Roaster! I've got a toaster!
BrandeX Posted August 23, 2008 at 02:38 PM Report Share Posted August 23, 2008 at 02:38 PM Your in luck actually since its nothing. Many people end up with some odd ball word or phrase on their body. You can tell people its just a decorative picture, like a tribal band, but inherently meaningless.
Guoke Posted August 23, 2008 at 03:36 PM Report Share Posted August 23, 2008 at 03:36 PM Rest easy! It is a Chinese character and the tattoo is cool! It's the character '酉' (you3), the tenth 'Earthly Branch' (地支) that is associated with the animal sign of the rooster. Er..... the 'roaster' sign? accountant Posted August 23, 2008 at 05:59 PM Report Share Posted August 23, 2008 at 05:59 PM It's a Chinese character poorly tattooed, that may represent rooster. One way or another, pretty ugly calligraphically.
Guoke Posted August 24, 2008 at 03:38 AM Report Share Posted August 24, 2008 at 03:38 AM Count yourself lucky you haven't got the character '鸡' (meaning a chicken or a whore) tattooed on you! Beauty is in the eye of the beholder,I suppose. To some people, it may look weird or ugly from the point of view of Chinese calligraphy. Personally, I think it's creative. mr.stinky Posted August 24, 2008 at 07:39 AM Report Share Posted August 24, 2008 at 07:39 AM squinting from the bottom right, i'm pretty sure it might possible maybe absolutely be this one: 疤
creamyhorror Posted August 24, 2008 at 05:20 PM Report Share Posted August 24, 2008 at 05:20 PM squinting from the bottom right, i'm pretty sure it might possible maybe absolutelybe this one: Not really. Guoke already identified the most likely character (which is how it looks to me too, much more than 疤 anyway). Plus it even represents the rooster, apparently. renzhe Posted August 24, 2008 at 06:33 PM Report Share Posted August 24, 2008 at 06:33 PM Knowing which character it's supposed to be, i can almost see the resemblence.
