I was looking for a Web site that displays the ancient versions of modern characters, so that I can have a better understanding of modern characters. What I found was http://www.chineseetymology.org/. It has simplified, traditional, seal, bronze, and oracle versions of the characters, and it has many, many versions available for each character.

Very interesting Web site. Maybe this can be helpful for some of you.

(象形字 compose only a small fraction of characters. Most are 形聲字.)
