This web grew bigger and bigger in a circle. 一只蜻蜓在空中抓蚊子,险些撞到网上。他猛地翻了一个身,才擦着网边儿窜过去。蜻蜓吓得心怦怦跳,忍不住骂了一句: A dragonfly in the air grabbed a mosquito, (he) almost hit the web. He ferociously flipped him over on his body, (This next part I don't really understand.) 才擦着网边儿窜过去 Wiped away suffering of the webs boundary, son flees in the past? Dragonfly's frightened heart impulsively jumps, unable to bear the abuse in one sentence. “该死的,跑到这儿来捣鬼!差点儿让她当了点心…… Time to die, escape here come hanky panky! Almost let her be light refreshments/snack.... 蜘蛛大婶儿心里正有气,搭腔说: Spider's oldest wife's son's heart and mind have anger, he responds with “哟,这是谁,说话这么不干不净的!各有各的办法嘛,怎么叫‘捣鬼’?把蚊子全给我轰走啦,我还没找你算帐哪!” Oh, This is who, speaks so much filthy things! Each has every means, what do you call hanky panky? Mosquito everything gives me rumbling movements, I also not find your numerate how! This is only part of the story, and there are PLENTY of things that do not sound quite right with my translation of this story. If anyone could correct my mistakes, that would help me out a lot! The story is titled 蜘蛛大婶儿, ---> Aunt Spider 蜘蛛大婶儿在几个树杈中间织了一张网。这张网又大又圆。 Aunt spider weaved a web between some tree branches. this web is big and round. 一只蜻蜓在空中抓蚊子,险些撞到网上。他猛地翻了一个身,才擦着网边儿窜过去。蜻蜓吓得心怦怦跳,忍不住骂了一句: A dragonfly was hunting a mosquito in the air, (he) almost hit the web. He ferociously turned his body, and luckily he escaped being caught by the web. Dragonfly was so frightened, his heart impulsively jumps, thus he can't help cursing his bad luck “该死的,跑到这儿来捣鬼!差点儿让她当了点心…… Damn it! gkung Posted September 20, 2008 at 11:47 PM Report Posted September 20, 2008 at 11:47 PM Having "蜘蛛大婶儿" translated into "Spiders big or oldest wife's son" is hilarious. I assume you're doing a character-by-character interpretation of it. Emma's translation is right on the money (except that the "snakes" should be "snacks".) I'd suggest trying SYSTRAN (www.systransoft.com) translator when the human help is not available next time. They have a tool there you can use for free. You might also wish to check out www.GeorgeKung.com ("Read Chinese Without Knowing Chinese") It talks about using different translation software to read/translate/learn Chinese. Quote
