Guest AlexF Posted June 17, 2004 at 12:07 PM Report Posted June 17, 2004 at 12:07 PM I have not found such thread in forum.. So, maybe anyone have or know where to find (in the net) the list of count words. I got one - but its all in chinese. It will be easier for me (and other people studying chinese) if it was in chinese-english. I mean something like: [count word character] - [pinyin] - [usage situations in english] Thanx! Quote

skylee Posted June 18, 2004 at 11:11 AM Report Posted June 18, 2004 at 11:11 AM The measure word for hour is 个, e.g. 一个小时, 三个钟头. Examples of 点 as a measure word - 我有几点(个)想法/意见. Quote
Guest AlexF Posted June 18, 2004 at 12:18 PM Report Posted June 18, 2004 at 12:18 PM Ok. thanx. That means that there is an error in my chinese textbook.. BTW whats the difference between 小时 and 钟头? - both mean hour. If i forgot some right measure word, can i use 个 instead? Or it would sound clumsy for native speaker? Quote
Quest Posted June 18, 2004 at 01:05 PM Report Posted June 18, 2004 at 01:05 PM BTW whats the difference between 小时 and 钟头? - both mean hour. 小时 and 钟头 are synonyms, with the former being more formal. If i forgot some right measure word, can i use 个 instead? Or it would sound clumsy for native speaker? generally no, you cannot. e.g. 一个纸, 一个江, 一个衣服, 一个头发 all sound weird and wrong. Quote
shibo77 Posted June 20, 2004 at 07:48 AM Report Posted June 20, 2004 at 07:48 AM I think some textbooks says that if you forgot or are unsure of which countword to use, generally you can still be understood if you use, 个ge4. People wil understand you, and they will bring you a pony or a watch or a piece of paper, but they will correct you. "点dian3" can be used for "hour". But it is colloquial and dialectal. 几点? Ji3 dian3? (How much) (dot(s))? What time (is it)? 下午三点. Xia4 wu3 san1 dian3. (Under) (noon) (three) (dot(s)). (It is) three in the afternoon. -Shibo Quote
