MT!225 Posted September 10, 2008 at 11:40 PM Report Posted September 10, 2008 at 11:40 PM Hello, I'm a researcher in the US who is trying to work with Chinese communities in the UK (London or elsewhere). I wonder if someone might be able to direct me to some specific community sites for Chinese in the UK. This is for a research project where I hope to offer to provide a detailed wiki environment for the community to share its stories, history, recipes, and anything else the community wishes. Thanks for the help. -Michael Quote
davidj Posted September 11, 2008 at 09:47 AM Report Posted September 11, 2008 at 09:47 AM http://www.lkcn.net/. However, it looks to me as though you are maybe planning to go into competition with them. This site is mainly frequented by mainland Chinese, particularly those on HSMP (Highly Skilled Management and Professional) visas. The site is in Simplified Chinese and most user contributed material is in Simplified Chinese, although there is also Traditional Chinese and English. I'm not aware of any BBC (British Born Chinese) site. Depending on exactly what you are looking for, the UK Federation of Chinese Schools site may, indirectly, give you pointers to community organisations. There is also a site, that I think is frequented by mainland Chinese students studying in the west in general, with pingguo in the name. It had some notoriety recently because of a connection between betting scam postings to it and a recent high profile murder. Quote
davidj Posted September 11, 2008 at 11:07 AM Report Posted September 11, 2008 at 11:07 AM I'm not aware of any BBC (British Born Chinese) site. However Googling "British Born Chinese" produces several likely candidates. Quote
MT!225 Posted September 11, 2008 at 03:24 PM Author Report Posted September 11, 2008 at 03:24 PM Great leads. Thanks for the info. Hopefully any communities would see it as assistance more than competition. Quote
teaforme Posted September 12, 2008 at 12:45 PM Report Posted September 12, 2008 at 12:45 PM Hi there -- You might want to try Dim Sum (No, not the Cantonese brunch. It's the name of the British Chinese Community's Association & Website). http://www.dimsum.co.uk You might also want to look into the Tower Hamlets Chinese Association website: www.thchinese.org.uk Tower Hamlets is a borough in London where lots of Chinese (and other ethnic groups) live. Hope that helps a bit. Quote
